The Mill - Anecdotes

1. Legendary vocals

In 1982 I was working in CBS (Whitfield Street) Studios as a technical support engineer with the prototype Sony PCM-3324 digital multitrack recorder. The sessions were "Songs from the Shows" destined for an early all-digital CD release.

One day when we were doing choral overdubs, the choirmaster came from the studio into the control room to listen to the playback. He was incredibly enthusiastic over the sound quality from the digital multitrack;

"Wow" he said, "I haven't heard a choir sounding that good since we did 'Springtime for Hitler' at The Mill!".
